Updated StatsROCHESTER – The Nazareth College hockey squad battled a ranked opponent to a tie for the second consecutive night Sunday, as the Golden Flyers and sixth-ranked Amherst College played to a 1-1 tie.
With the tie, Nazareth moves to 2-3-4, while Amherst moves to 2-1-1.
Both goals were scored in the opening period with Nazareth notching the first eight minutes in as
Alex Corvi netted his first collegiate goal.
Scott Andler got behind the defense for a shot and Corvi put in the rebound to give Nazareth the 1-0 lead.
The Lord Jeffs tied the game exactly five minutes later on a power play goal from Phil Johannson.
After a scoreless second period, Nazareth failed to convert a 5-on-3 opportunity for :22 seconds and the subsequent power play thereafter late in the third period.
Ed Zdolshek made a key save for Nazareth with :30 seconds left in the third period, sliding across the goal crease to make a glove save. He made 24 saves in the game.
The Golden Flyers also had a power play in the overtime session, with
Scott Dawson generating the best opportunity on a rip from the point.
Nazareth was 0-4 on the power play, while the Lord Jeffs finishes 1-5.
Dawson and Geoff Bagwell each registered five shots in the game.
Nazareth returns to the ice on December 11 when they will travel to Geneseo for a 7 p.m contest.
