Updated StatsPURCHASE, N.Y. – The Nazareth College hockey squad erupted for three goals in the third period to earn their first win of the season, 5-1, over host Manhattanville College in ECAC West action Friday night.
Nazareth improves to 1-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play, while Manhattanville moves to 4-2-0 and 2-2-0, respectively.
C.J. Murray put the visitors ahead late in the first period, with assists credited to J.R Wojciechowski and
Brad Pizzey.
The Valiants scored their only goal of the game shortly after to even the score at 1-1 after the first period.
Nazareth took the lead for good late in to the second period on the power play.
Dominik Gabaj threaded a diagonal cross-ice pass to
Oliver Janzen, who was able to slam it in the short side. Murray also had an assist on the goal.
The Golden Flyers opened up the game in the third period with three goals.
Ryan Walter scored his first goal of the season and recorded a point for the third straight game at the 5:50 mark in the period. Gabaj picked up an assist on the goal.
The offense kept clicking as the Golden Flyers scored two goals, just :26 seconds apart, starting at 13:58 on a power play goal from Gabaj. Murray set up Gabaj with a beautiful pass, while Pizzey also added an assist on the play.
Senior
Rocky Gruttadauria closed out the scoring for Nazareth on an assist from
Scott Andler and
Scott Dawson.
Murray and Gabaj each finished with three points for Nazareth.
Ed Zdolshek registered 32 saves in net.
Nazareth returns to action at 4 p.m. Saturday, when it will travel to Neumann College.
