Updated StatsROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting Elmira College scored four goals in the third period, including one empty-netter to earn a 5-2 victory over Nazareth in ECAC West action Saturday night.
Nazareth falls to 0-3-2 on the year and 0-3-1 in conference play, while Elmira improves to 1-3 overall and in conference play.
Each team scored in the opening period with Nazareth notching the first tally just 2:50 into the contest. Following a faceoff win,
Ryan Walter ripped a shot from the point that was deflected in by
Scott Andler.
Rocky Gruttadauria was also credited with an assist.
The visitors scored shortly after to even the score on an unassisted goal from Alexander Taulien.
After a scoreless second period, three goals were scored in the first 4:22 of the third, including the first two from Elmira.
Jeremy Marginsky scored 1:40 in, and the Soaring Eagles added a shorthanded goal from Carter Shinkaruk less than a minute later to take a 3-1 advantage.
Nazareth eventually converted on that same power play with
John Power roofing a shot from the right side to close the gap to 3-2.
Oliver Janzen and
Scott Dawson earned assists on the play.
Elmira added another goal on the power play with under four minutes to play before notching an empty netter in the closing seconds to round out the scoring.
The Golden Flyers outshot Elmira 35-26 in the game.
Don Olivieri and
C.J. Murray each finished with six shots.
Ed Zdolshek made 21 saves in net for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action next weekend when it will travel to Manhattanville on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest, before squaring off against Neumann College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
