BoxBUFFALO, N.Y – The Nazareth College hockey squad opened up the 2015-16 season Saturday night, earning a 2-2 draw with host Buffalo State.
It was the Bengals second game of the season, as they move to 0-0-2.
Nazareth lit the lamp first, scoring 7:42 into the second period.
Dominik Gabaj capitalized on the power play off an assist from
Oliver Janzen.
Buffalo State didn't take long to answer, knotting the game at 1 less than four minutes later on an Anthony Beaumont goal.
The Bengals took advantage of a penalty that carried over from the second period scoring a goal late on the extra man opportunity less than one minute into the third period.
The Golden Flyers kept clawing and eventually evened the game at two as
Scott Dawson scored on the power play. Gabaj and
Don Olivieri were credited with the assists.
Late in the third period Nazareth went on the power play, registering three shots, none of which were on goal.
Nazareth generated the better of play in the overtime period with five shot to the Bengals two, however the game remained locked up at 2.
Dawson,
Matt Manzella, and Olivieri each registered five shots.
Senior
Ed Zdolshek racked up 43 saves in net for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action on for its home-opener on Friday, playing host to Utica College at 7 p.m. for an ECAC West contest.
