The teams completed 110 minutes tied 0-0, marking the seventh time since 2003 that the teams have played to a scoreless draw. In the teams' previous meeting, the game finished in a 0-0 tie before Nazareth prevailed in penalty kicks in the E8 Championship game last November.
Nazareth completed its regular-season conference schedule with a record of 5-1-2 and a mark of 11-2-3 overall. Ithaca hosts Utica next Saturday with a 5-0-2 conference record and a 10-3-2 mark overall. Nazareth concludes its regular-season schedule Saturday at home with a non-conference game against Skidmore at 2 p.m. The tie enabled Stevens to take over sole possession of first place in the E8 thanks to the Ducks' 7-1 victory over Utica Saturday. The Ducks host Hartwick next Saturday with a 6-0-1 conference record and an overall mark of 13-2-1.
In Saturday's Naz-Ithaca game, the Bombers had a 24-12 advantage in shots, aided largely by a 16-5 edge in the second half. The Bombers also controlled corner kicks by a 7-2 margin. Junior
Allison Dobles shined in goal for the Golden Flyers by making a career-high 18 saves. Her counterpart, Beth Coppolecchia, had six saves for Ithaca.
The Bombers had a flurry of chances during the last 10 minutes of regulation, including a shot by Megan Nash with less than a minute to play that was ticketed for the right corner of the goal. Dobles, however, was able to get a foot on the ball, which then deflected off the goal post.
Each team had three shots in overtime. Nazareth's best chance came on a shot by
Katie Trainor about three minutes into the first period that Coppolecchia punched aside. Then in the second overtime,
Katie Reilly lofted a shot toward the goal that Coppolecchia snared. Then with less than a minute to play, Trainor's header was stopped by Coppolecchia. Seconds later, Ithaca's Kelsey King had a shot that was stopped by Dobles.
Trainor and
Paige Sullivan each had three shots for Nazareth, while Nash had seven of Ithaca's shots, including six that were on goal.
