James Sergeant fires second straight round of 76

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- Junior James Sergeant fired his second consecutive round of 76 for Nazareth Sunday to lead the way for the Golden Flyers, who were competing at the Empire 8 Conference men's golf championships at Yahnundasis Golf Club.

Nazareth is in seventh place in the team standings following the second day of competition with a team score of 666. St. John Fisher (606) has a nine-shot lead over Scranton in the team standings. Rounds three and four will be contested in the spring.

Sergeant's two-day total of 152 is good for a tie for sixth place individually. Fisher's Thad Wier III had rounds of 73 and 74 and has a three-shot lead with a total score of 147. Evan Clarke and Kyle Hyde, each from Elmira, are tied for second at 150.

Senior Nick Polito was Nazareth's next best finisher. He shot 88 Sunday to combine with Saturday's 81 for a two-round total of 169. Other Nazareth competitors were Brett Barton (90-82 -- 172); Andrew Lund (88-88 -- 176); Ben Waldman (87-90--177); and Sean de Herder (104-94 -- 198).
