Wright, Wyant win Haskins Awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth College seniors Brian Wright and Katie Wyant are the 2013 recipients of the Emily Haskins Inspirational Athlete Award. The award recognizes students' athletic achievement and their inspiration to others.

Wright, of Franklin Lakes, N.J. and a graduate of Don Bosco Prep High School, is captain of the Golden Flyers' lacrosse team in 2013. He scored six goals in the first three games before suffering a hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the balance of the season. For his career, Wright has 50 goals and 26 assists. He was a second-team Empire 8 Conference all-star in 2012. He will graduate with a degree in biology.

Wyant, of Jasper, N.Y. and a graduate of Jasper-Troupsburg High School, has excelled for Nazareth in soccer and track and field. She scored five goals during her soccer career, but missed the entire 2012 season with a leg injury. She worked her way back and is competing for the Golden Flyers' track and field team this spring. She was the 2012 Empire 8 Conference champion in the 400-meter dash during the indoor season. She will graduate with degrees in Business Administration and Economics.

The Inspirational Athlete Award was created in honor of Emily Haskins, a former Nazareth soccer player who died unexpectedly in 2000.
