ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Nazareth's men's and women's golf teams dodged raindrops Sunday as the Golden Flyers competed in the second day of the McDaniel Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club.
Nazareth's women's team finished in fourth place in the five-team event with a score of 799. New York University won the invitational with a score of 642. NYU's Elaine Tse took medalist honors with a tournament record total of 3-over-par 147 with rounds of 71 and 76.
In the men's tournament, Nazareth placed 13th in the 14-team field with scores of 357 and 335 for a 692 total. St. John Fisher captured the team crown with scores of 303 and 305 for a 608 total. Fisher's Chris Blyth posted the lowest score total with rounds of 75 and 74 for a 149 total.
In the women's tournament
Anouluck Chanthabandith was Nazareth's top finisher as she followed up Saturday's 94 with a 91 on Sunday for a two-day total of 185, good for 13th place. Junior
Anne Czelusniak was two strokes back with scores of 97 and 90 for a 187 total. Other competitors were freshman
Meaghan Porter (102-99-- 201) and senior
Mindy Fowler (126-124--250).
In the men's tournament, senior
Jay Stith finished in a tie for 42nd place with rounds of 84 and 83 for a 167 total. Sophomore
Dan Strack was next for Nazareth in 58th place with rounds of 95 and 83 for a 178 total. Freshman
David Studin had Nazareth's lowest Sunday round for an 81. Combined with his m98 on Saturday, Studin finished in a tie for 59th place with a 179 total.
Junior
Nick Polito (92-88--180) and freshman
Tom Mediak (86-96--182) also competed for the Golden Flyers.
