ALFRED, NY – Nazareth held off a late rally by Alfred to defeat the Saxons 52-50 in women's basketball Friday night. This was the Golden Flyers' second win in two weeks over the Saxons. Nazareth improved to 8-14, 5-6 in the Empire 8. Alfred is now 6-16, 1-12.
Alfred went on a 10-2 scoring run in the final 3:36 of the game to chip away at a 10-point Nazareth lead that was built on the strength of a pair of three-polint baskets by sophomore
Michelle Melanson on back-to-back possessions. After Alfred closed to within two, 50-48, on a basket by Harley Cleary with 2:29 left, Nazareth's final basket came from freshman
Veronica Peck with :57 left to give Nazareth a four-point cushion.
The Saxon's came within two points with :35 seconds left. On the next possession, Nazareth ran out the shot clock and giving Alfred the ball back with :04 left in the game. The Golden Flyers defense prevented the Saxon's from getting a final shot off to seal the win.
In a game that saw six lead changes, the Golden Flyers held a one-point advantage at the end of the first half, 17-16. After several early lead changes in the second, the Golden Flyers were able to build a 10-point advantage with 3:36 remaining in the game before Alfred's late game rally.

Lindsey Kelly continued her strong play for the Golden Flyers as she posted game highs in points (23) and rebounds (16). Melanson finished with eight points and sophomore
Hannah Runyon scored seven. Nazareth had a slight 47-44 edge in rebounds.
