Nazareth slips to Neumann, 4-2

ASTON, PA -- Host Neumann scored the final three goals of the game to rally past Nazareth 4-2 in a men's ECAC hockey game on Saturday evening. Juniors Jordan Ciccarello and Mark Zavorin scored the Golden Flyers' goals. Nazareth claimed a 2-1 lead in the second period before the Knights scored three unanswered goals to claim the victory.

With the loss, the Golden Flyers fall to 6-18-1 overall and 1-14 in ECAC West contests. Neumann, ranked 14th nationally, improves to 16-6-3 overall and 8-6-1 in conference contests with the victory.

After a scoreless first period, the second period featured four goals as each team found the back of the net twice. Steve Gervais put the Knights on the board with a power play goal 2:42 into the second period after Nazareth was whistled for hooking. The Golden Flyers answered with a goal by Ciccarello with about eight minutes to play in the period. Sophomore Tom Seravalli and Zavorin were credited with assists on Ciccarello's goal.

It took Nazareth only 3:24 to find the Neumann net again as Zavorin scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season. Freshman Packy Jones earned the assist for setting up Zavorin's tally. With his 10 goals and 10 assists, Jones finishes the regular season ranked second on the team in points. Zavorin is first with his 12 goals and 13 assists.

Following Nazareth's goal, Steve Low tied the game with 16 seconds to play in the second period. Gervais and Scott Elkow were credited with assists.

The Knights reclaimed the lead in the third period. Five minutes into the period Gervais scored his second goal of the game. Brandon Gagne and Elkow earned assists on the eventual game-winning goal. About three minutes later, Jordan Zalba added an insurance goal on the power play to secure Neumann's victory. Scott Farrell and Chris Bournazos recorded assists on the score. For Farrell, it was his 17th assist of the season. Farrell ranks third in Divsion III in points per game for defensemen with six goals and his 17 assists.

Freshman Joe Gladnick made 27 saves in 58:51 in net for Nazareth. Gladnick made 14 saves in the opening 20 minutes to keep the Knights scoreless. Braely Torris also recorded 27 saves to earn the victory.

Neumann finished 2-4 with the man advantage while the Golden Flyers finished 0-6 on the power play. Nazareth and the Knights were nearly even in shots. Neumann finished with a 31-29 edge.
