ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth goalie Joe Gladnick made 48 saves for host Nazareth Friday, but the Golden Flyers failed to score as Elmira claimed a 2-0 men's hockey victory at the Sports Centre at MCC.

The win was the Soaring Eagles' second over the Golden Flyers this season as they improved to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in the ECAC West. Nazareth, which suffered its second straight shutout defeat, dropped to 6-13-1 overall and 1-9 in conference play. Elmira also defeated the Golden Flyers, 9-5, on Jan. 17. The two teams meet again Saturday in Elmira.

Elmira had a 50-33 advantage in shots on goal, but just two of those eluded Gladnick, whose 48 saves were a season high. Elmira scored its first goal at the 5-minute mark of the opening period as Jesper Strale netted his sixth goal of the season with assists from Josh Burnell and Carter Shinkaruk.

Shinkaruk also had an assist on the Soaring Eagles' second goal, which came at 12:13 of the second period. Tyler Campbell scored his third goal of the season with Rob Simpson also adding an assist.

Nazareth had opportunities to score, but Elmira goalie Ryan deMelo was equal to the challenge as he finished with 33 saves. Nazareth had three power play chances, but failed to capitalize. Senior Ben Waldman had five of Nazareth's 33 shots and junior Mark Zavorin had four.
