ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Host Hartwick held Nazareth to 14-56 (25 percent) shooting from the field to defeat the Golden Flyers 54-36 in a women's Empire 8 Conference basketball game on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Lindsey Kelly finished with a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds to lead Nazareth.
Following the loss, the Golden Flyers drop to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in conference games. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 13-3 overall and remain undefeated in conference games with a record of 6-0.
Sophomore
Maria Allocco opened the scoring 3:41 into the period with a layup to give Nazareth the early 2-0 lead. Hartwick's tenacious defense held the Golden Flyers to only 13 total points in the first 20 minutes to take a double-digit lead, 24-13, going into the second half. Kelly scored a layup just before the buzzer to trim Nazareth's deficit to 11 points. Hartwick's 24-11 lead was the largest that the Hawks held during the first half.
Kelly opened the second half with a two-point jumper to bring the Golden Flyers within nine points 13 seconds into the second half. The Hawks stretched their lead to 23 points with 7:44 to play in regulation. Hartwick used a 21-7 scoring run to take the commanding lead. After the Hawks took control of the contest, Nazareth cut Hartwick's lead to 18 points in the final seconds as the Golden Flyers scored the final three points of the game. Nazareth's defense held the Hawks without a field goal for more than five minutes to finish the game. Hartwick's only offense in the final four minutes was converting six free throw attempts.
Although Nazareth's defense held Hartwick to shooting under 30 percent (9-31) in the first half, the Golden Flyers were unable to take advantage as Nazareth's offense struggled with hitting only 19 percent (4-21) of its shots in the opening half. Both teams connected on 10 field goals in the second half, which was enough for the Hawks to maintain their lead.

Erica Shaw had six points while Allocco and junior
Megan Morrison each added five points.
Nazareth held Hartwick to 19-57 (33 percent) shooting from the field to limit the Hawks' offensive attack. The Golden Flyers finished with a 41-39 edge in total rebounds. In addition to the seven rebounds by Kelly, Allocco and freshman
Veronica Peck collected seven rebounds and six rebounds, respectively. Brittney Dumas had a game-high nine rebounds for the Hawks.
Dumas finished with a game-high 20 points for Hartwick, followed by 14 points Kate Purcell.
The Golden Flyers are in action again on January 22nd when Nazareth travels to Utica for another Empire 8 Conference game.
