Game 1 | Game 2 | Updated stats
GENESEO, N.Y. -- Seniors Casey Mathers and Kelly Kocher each pitched shutouts and sophomore Sarah Cipperly hit a grand slam Wednesday as visiting Nazareth swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Geneseo, shutting out the Blue Knights by scores of 5-0 and 8-0.

The victories enabled Nazareth to snap a 12-game losing streak and improve to 4-18 overall. Geneseo slipped to 8-14 overall. Nazareth is home Thursday for a doubleheader against RIT starting at 3 p.m.

Mathers pitched brilliantly for Nazareth in the first game in limiting Geneseo to just three hits over seven innings and striking out a season-high 11 batters. Kocher was equally masterful in the second game in allowing just one hit -- a fifth-inning single -- and one walk while striking out eight.

In the first game, Cipperly and Mathers each went 3-for-3 and sophomore Shauna Bardanis added two hits. Cipperly scored for Nazareth in the first inning as she singled with two outs and came home on a double by Mathers. Cipperly was hit by a pitch with two outs in the third, advanced to second on a single by Mathers and scored on a single by Bardanis.

In the fifth inning, Cipperly, Mathers and Bardanis each reached on two-out singles and Cipperly scored Nazareth's third run when Shannon Dowling walked. Nazareth added two more runs in the seventh on a two-run single by freshman Sophia Rhoades.

In the second game, Nazareth scored in the second after a one-out walk to Rhoades, a double by Meg DeMario and an RBI single by freshman Danielle Sancilio.

The Golden Flyers broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth, highlighted by Cipperly's grand slam and a two-run shot by Rhoades. DeMario had her second double of the game in the inning and Brittany Patenaude singled in front of Rhoades' first career homer.
