ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior
Mark Zavorin scored twice and added three assists for host Nazareth Friday as the Golden Flyers outscored Western New England, 9-6, in a non-conference men's hockey game played at the Sports Centre at MCC.
Nazareth, unbeaten in its last three games (2-0-1) improved to 4-7-1 overall, while Western New England dropped to 6-4 overall. Nazareth closes out its first-semester schedule Saturday at home against Buffalo State at 7 p.m.
On Friday, the Golden Flyers never trailed against the Golden Bears in amassing a season-high goal total. Nazareth scored three times in the first period and five more times in the second to build a commanding advantage. Five of the Golden Flyers' goals came on the power play in eight attempts and eight different players scored.

Ben Waldman and freshman
Packy Jones each had one goal and two assists. Junior
Zach Lewis, sophomore
Julius Tamasy and freshmen
Sean de Herder,
Jon-Paul Durso and
Scott Dawson also scored.
Jones, Zavorin and Durso each scored in the first period as Nazareth built a 3-2 advantage. After Jones scored to make the score 1-0, WNE evened the score 1-1 as Brian Prost scored on a 5-on-3 power play. Zavorin and Durso followed with their goals for Nazareth to make it 3-1 and Nazareth never trailed thereafter.
In the second period, Nazareth erupted for five goals -- all on the power play -- to take an 8-5 lead. Zavorin scored his team-leading ninth goal just :55 into the period off assists from Waldman and
James Redman, then Tamasy scored less than three minutes after that with assists from Waldman and Zavorin.
Lewis delivered his second goal of the season at 10:12 with Jones and
Reed Smith adding assists. The Golden Bears then scored three goals in a row to close within 6-5, but Nazareth completed the second-period flurry with goals in the closing minute by de Herder and and Waldman just 36 seconds apart.
Dawson scored his fifth goal of the season early in the third period to extend Nazareth's lead to 9-5, before WNE's William Preston closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with less than three minutes left. Freshman
Uthman Samaai assisted on Dawson's goal to gain his first collegiate point. Freshman

Freshman
Ed Zdolshek played all 60 minutes in goal for the Golden Flyers and gained his fourth win of the season with 33 saves. The Golden Bears used all three of their goalies, who combined for 28 saves.
Zavorin leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 15 points on nine goals, six assists. Tamasy has 13 points with three goals and a team-leading 10 assists.
