Flyers open indoor season at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its indoor track and field season Saturday at the Cornell Relays. The Golden Flyers posted some strong performances, including a school record in the men's triple jump from freshman Khiary Gayle.

Gayle placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.26 meters (46 feet, 9 1/2 inches). He also finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1/2 inch. In the triple jump, Gayle broke the record set by Brandon Wheeler more than six years ago by more than four inches.

Junior Jake Lafaver also ran the 500-meter dash for Nazareth and finished 10th with a time of 1:08.05.

In the women's meet, freshman Taylor Pierson finished ninth in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 11 1/4 inches. She also finished 21st in the 300-meter dash (:43.56), one tick behind teammate Hannah Brackley, who finished 20th in :43.55.

In other events, senior Keaghlan Morrissey finished 21st in the 500-meter dash (1:24.90) and junior Bethany Althaus was 18th in the 5,000-meter run (20:08.78). Nazareth's distance medley team of Lauren Jamieson, Brackley, Michaela Gildemeyer and Lauren Heitzhaus finished seventh in 13:30.17.
