GENESEO, N.Y. -- Roberts Wesleyan raced to an early lead and went on to easily defeat Nazareth in a consolation game of the Wendy's College Classic for women's basketball, 69-47, Thursday at Geneseo. Nazareth dropped to 1-4 overalll, while Roberts improved to 4-2.
Marissa Bunce hit a three-point shot for Roberts less than a minute into the game and the Redhawks extended their lead to double digits before the game was 10 minutes old and Roberts was comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
Ashley Cianfriglia scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds for Roberts. Samantha Courtney contributed 10 points for the Redhawks. Freshman
Lindsey Kelly had 13 points for the Golden Flyers. Nazareth will play RIT Saturday in the tournament's seventh place game at Nazareth at 1 p.m. Roberts and St. John Fisher will play in the fifth-place game at 3 p.m.
Roberts led 33-15 at halftime and Cianfriglia hit a three-pointer on Roberts' first possession of the second half and he game was never close again.
Kelly made 5 of 9 shots from the field and went 3-for-3 at the free-throw line to score her 13 points. Senior
