PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Geneseo jumped to an early lead and never trailed Tuesday as the Blue Knights defeated Nazareth, 75-50, in a first-round women's basketball game in the Wendy's College Classic at St. John Fisher.
Geneseo remained unbeaten at 3-0 and will play William Smith in Thursday's semifinals at the University of Rochester at 6 p.m. Nazareth will play Roberts Wesleyan in a consolation game at Geneseo at 8 p.m. Freshmen
Lindsey Kelly and
Veronica Peck each scored 11 points for the Golden Flyers against Geneseo.
Geneseo shot the ball well from the field, hitting 29 of 56 shots overall (51.8 percent), including 7 of 10 from three-point range. Shannon McGinnis and Melissa Graham each scored 14 points and Allison McKenna scored 12.
Geneseo scored the first two baskets of the game to take an early lead, but Nazareth came back to tie the score at 15-15 on a basket by Kelly with 11:15 left in the half. Katie Peterson answered with a three-pointer on Geneseo's next possession and the Knights were in front the rest of the way.
Geneseo stretched the lead to 44-30 by halftime by hitting 17 of 29 first-half shots, including 5 of 7 from three-point range. Eight different players scored, led McGinnis and Graham with nine points each and McKenna with six. Kelly had eight first-half points for Nazareth and Peck scored six on a pair of three-pointers.
Geneseo's lead continued to grow in the second half as both teams emptied their benches. Nazareth finished the game by shooting 34 percent from the field (18-for-53) and 28 percent (7-for-25) from three-point range.

Michelle Melanson each had six.
