Hobart blanks Nazareth, 3-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sixth-ranked Hobart scored once in the first period and twice in the second Friday as the Statesmen blanked host Nazareth, 3-0, in an ECAC West men's hockey game at the Sports Centre at MCC.

The defeat was the fifth straight for the Golden Flyers, who dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the ECAC West. The Statesmen remained unbeaten at 5-0-2 and 2-0-1 in conference play. The two teams play again Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Sports Centre.

Hobart outshot Nazareth 31-19 overall, including 10-6 in the opening period. The Statesmen scored the only goal of the period at 6:08 as Keith Clarke converted a centering pass from Terrance O'Neill for his second goal of the season.

In the second period, Hobart converted on a power play opportunity. With Nazareth's Zach Lewis in the penalty box for interference, Hobart's Bo Webster scored at 9:02 off assists from Ryan Corcoran and Brad McBride. Four minutes later, Ben Gamache closed out the scoring with an even-strength goal off assists from Brett Riley and Mac Olson.

Nazareth had six power play chances of its own, but failed to convert as Hobart goalie Nick Broadwater was named the game's number one star after making 19 saves. Nazareth had a 5-on-3 opportunity early in the third period and a five-minute chance later in the period, but couldn't cash in.

Freshman Ed Zdolshek played all 60 minutes in goal for the Golden Flyers and made 28 saves. Senior Ben Waldman had three of Nazareth's 19 shots, while Julius Tamasy, Tom Seravalli, Jon-Paul Durso, Reed Smith and Scott Dawson each had two.
