FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Unranked Bowdoin outscored Nazareth 15-1 over the second and third periods Wednesday and overwhelmed the 16th-ranked Golden Flyers in men's lacrosse 21-5 in a non-conference game played at Sacred Heart University.

The loss drops Nazareth to 3-2 overall. Bowdoin is 1-1.

Nazareth played much of the game without its leading scorer, senior attackman Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar, who suffered a concussion early in the first quarter and did not return. Senior face-off specialist Kyle McLean also missed the game with a sore ankle. Bowdoin, meanwhile, got balanced scoring as 14 different players scored against three Nazareth goalies.

The Polar Bears enjoyed a 49-30 advantage in shots and a 38-28 edge in ground balls. Bowdoin also won 19 of 29 face-offs.

Nazareth led 2-1 early on goals by Nate DeLone and #C.J. Estes and the score was tied 3-3 following a goal by Scott Castle# with :47 left in the first quarter. Bowdoin's Billy Bergner scored with :19 left in the first period and the Polar Bears rattled off eight straight goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 12-3 lead.

Castle scored for Nazareth before halftime, but the Polar Bears exploded again in the third quarter by outscoring Nazareth 7-0 in those 15 minutes. Nazareth got another goal from DeLone in the fourth quarter, but it was far too late.

Patrick Lawlor had three goals and one assist for Bowdoin and Ben Chadwick, Nathan Fritts, Mark Flibotte, Franklin Reis, Keegan Mellhorn and Bergner all scored twice.

Nazareth goalies Grant Williams, Tim Doyle and Rob Olin combined to make 11 saves. Jake McCampbell played all 60 minutes for Bowdoin and recorded eight saves.

Nazareth is off until Wednesday, March 23 when the Golden Flyers host Cortland at 4 p.m.
