WHITESBORO, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its 2010 men's golf season Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the Utica College Invitational at Hidden Valley Golf Club.
Paced by a 5-over-par score of 76 from junior
Tyler Woodward, Nazareth turned in a team score of 320, just eight shots behind team titlist Scranton (312). Castleton was just one shot behind at 313 and Elmira one more behind at 314.
Woodward, a transfer to Nazareth from Jefferson Community College, was competing in his first event for the Golden Flyers and had nine-hole scores of 37 and 39 to finish third individually. Castleton's Eric Slosek was the medalist with a 73. Utica's Mike Reilly was the only other player to finish ahead of Woodward as he shot 75.
Also scoring for Nazareth were sophomore
Jay Stith with 79, junior
Dylan Bedy with 82 and junior
Colin Doran with 83.
Nazareth competes again next weekend at the St. Lawrence Invitational.
