Erinn Wood scored five goals and passed for four assists Saturday and fellow freshman
Alyssa Johnston had four goals and one assist as visiting Nazareth dominated Alfred in an Empire 8 women's lacrosse game, 21-8.
Nazareth improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in Empire 8 Conference games. Alfred dropped to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the E8.
Alfred scored three of the first four goals of the game to go up 3-1 early, but Nazareth answered with a six-goal flurry to take control for good. Wood had a goal and three assists during the outburst and freshman
Megan Cregan contributed two goals and senior
Stephanie Cash had two assists.
Alfred scored to interrupt the run before Nazareth scored five more goals in a row to take a 12-4 lead. Junior
Michelle Cook scored twice and Johnston had oen goal and one assist.
Nazareth also dominated the second half as Wood scored four times and Cash had three of her five assists. Johnston and senior
Jennifer Young also scored twice each.
Nazareth enjoyed sizable advantages in shots (48-16), ground balls (37-24) and draw controls (21-10). Johnson won five draws and Wood four. Junior
Chelsey Amidon had six ground balls and scored once. Senior goalie
Ann Sessler made one save and freshman
Shelby Robinson had two.
Nazareth plays again Sunday at Utica at 1 p.m.
