Brockport, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth women's lacrosse team visited the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on Wednesday for an Empire 8 Conference matchup. Nazareth fell into an early deficit and was unable to climb their way out. The Golden Flyers dropped the contest by a score of 12-4, moving their season record to 3-13 (3-5 in conference). With the win, Brockport improved to 10-5 (6-2 in conference).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brockport came out the gate swinging, wasting no time getting on the board. They established a 1-0 lead just 50 seconds into the game before adding two more in the next three minutes. Nazareth responded with a goal of their own and went on to trade goals with the Golden Eagles once more, but they would end the period in a 3-goal hole with a score of 5-2.
- The second quarter was all Brockport. The Golden Flyers only managed one shot on goal in the frame, while the home team recorded 6 of their own on 11 attempts, capitalizing thrice to further extend their lead. Nazareth also took a penalty and gave their opponents two free position shots, and Brockport made them pay with one free position goal and one powerplay goal. Halftime saw the Golden Flyers down 8-2 with a steep hill to climb in the second half.
- Nazareth came out to a better start after the intermission. The two teams traded clears and shots in the early going, as they would breeze through the opening 5 minutes without any additions to the scoreboard. It wasn't until 7:26 remaining in the quarter before Grace Gardner's manup goal broke the second-half ice. Her strike cut into Brockport's lead, but they returned the favor two-fold before the end of the third period, sending the two squads into the closing period with a score of 10-3.
- The fourth and final quarter was a similar story as its predecessor, seeing Nazareth score first at the 12-minute mark courtesy of a free-position goal by Anna Myers before allowing two the other way. Brockport maintained possession for most of the frame, not allowing Nazareth to generate a real attempt at a comeback. Time dwindled down and the score read 12-4 when the clock hit zero, marking Nazareth's 13th loss of the season.
