ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth dropped a pair of women's volleyball matches Saturday as the Golden Flyers completed the first day of the Upstate Regional Challenge.
Nazareth dropped three-set matches to 15th-ranked New York University (25-14, 25-12, 25-13) and St. Lawrence (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) to fall to 16-19 overall. The Golden Flyers play two more matches Sunday -- against University of Rochester at 11 a.m. and against Brockport at 3 p.m.
In the first match, the Violets made short work of the Golden Flyers as they hit .319 for the match with 38 kills against just nine hitting errors in 91 overall attempts. Erin McLaughlin and Kendyl Dunn each had nine kills and Mina Baban had 34 assists for NYU.
Senior
Kristi Custer had 10 kills for Nazareth and sophomore setter
Brittany Crocetti had 14 assists.
In the St. Lawrence match, sophomore
Aubrey Cooke paced Nazareth with 11 kills and senior
Megan Rogers had 23 digs. Graduate student
Carra Vanderstyne had six kills and 14 digs and sophomore
Amy Johnson had seven kills in 13 attempts for a .538 hitting percentage.
Liz Grogan led the Saints with 11 kills and Abigail Rose had 31 assists. Rose and Nyasha Miller each had 15 digs.
