Golden Flyers travel to Ithaca Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth won its fourth straight women's soccer game Wednesday as the Golden Flyers improved to 7-0 in Empire 8 Conference action with a 3-0 win over host RIT.

Nazareth is 10-5 overall and RIT stands at 7-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference games. The Golden Flyers are tied for first place in the Empire 8 with Ithaca, each with 7-0 conference records. The Golden Flyers travel to Ithaca Saturday for an E8 showdown at 12 p.m. The winner will be the top seed for next month's E8 Conference Tournament.

The Golden Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when Meagan Rivera chipped a ball over RIT goalkeeper Ashley Valenti's head from 30 yards out. Rivera's shot caught Valenti off the line and went over her head and into the right corner.

Kelly Kuhn and Erica Conte hooked up for a goal in the 24th minute to give the Golden Flyers a 2-0 lead. Conte played a wonderful through-ball to Kuhn, who dribbled around Vaenti and fired a shot into the open net.

Nazareth added an insurance goal in the second half as junior Kaylee Benz scored unassisted in the 71st minute.

Senior Hillary Simon played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves for her sixth shutout of the season and 21st of her career.
