ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Despite a 7-6 overall record and a four-game losing streak, Nazareth's women's basketball team is the top seed for this week's Wendy's College Classic with first-round games starting Tuesday.
The Golden Flyers will play eighth-seeded Brockport (2-7) in the first round Tuesday at Roberts Wesleyan at 6:15 p.m. The semifinals and finals are Thursday and Saturday, respectively at the University of Rochester.
"It's surprising, but the seedings were determined before this week's games," explained Nazareth Coach
Devin Gotham. "We just need to get back to playing the way we were before the break."
It marks the second time in the 17-year history of the women's tournament that the Golden Flyers have been seeded first. The last time, in 2001, Nazareth won the tournament title.
Nazareth's men's team gained the third seed for the 44th event with a 9-4 overall record. The Golden Flyers will play a familiar foe in RIT (3-6) in a first-round game Wednesday at Keuka at 6:15 p.m. The semifinals and finals are Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the University of Rochester.
