ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior Lisa Nazarenko pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight to lift Nazareth to a 7-0 victory over Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. Elmira came back to take the second game, 2-1.

Nazareth completed its Empire 8 Conference schedule with a 4-8 record. The Golden Flyers are 15-17 overall. Elmira is 2-10 in conference play and 16-10 overall.

In the first game, Nazarenko allowed only a first-inning single to Elmira's Lauryn DePaul for the Soaring Eagles' only base runner. Nazareth, meanwhile, scored in the bottom half of the first inning following a single by Lizzie Barlow and an Elmira fielding error.

The Golden Flyers scored four more times in the second. Laura Finan had a run-scoring single and Laura Persico knocked in another run with an infield grounder. Nazarenko accounted for the last two runs with a two-run single.

In the fifth inning, Persico singled and scored in front of Nazarenko's sixth home run of the season. On the pitcher's mound, Nazarenko improved to 7-4 and lowered her earned run average to 2.58.

In the second game, Nazareth squandered a strong pitching effort by freshman Kelly Kocher, who allowed just three hits and struck out 10. Elmira scored single runs in the first and second innings. Erin Pruess scored the first run after reaching on a walk. She came home on Kelli Hadley's RBI grounder.

Pruess drove home Elmira's second run after a lead-off walk to Stephany Fontinell.

Nazareth scored its lone run in the fourth inning after Barlow was hit by a pitch. She later scored on a double by Persico.

Nazareth threatened in the seventh inning after Polly Muehlenkamp reached on her third hit of the game. She, however, was doubled off first after Katie Valerio lined out to left field to end the game.

Nazareth closes its season with doubleheaders Tuesday at Brockport at 3 p.m. and home against Hilbert Wednesday at 3 p.m.
