Nazareth gains split at Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- Senior Christa Harris had two hits and kocked in three runs in a the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader Tuesday as Nazareth salvaged a split at Keuka. Nazareth dropped the first game 3-0  and came back to win the second game, 7-6.

Nazareth improved to 13-15 overall with the split. The Golden Flyers host Geneseo Thursday in a non-conference twinbill starting at 3 p.m. Keuka is 15-2 overall.

Harris had a two-run double for Nazareth in a five-run fifth inning to help the Golden Flyers build a 7-1 lead. Keuka rallied to score five times in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Golden Flyers were able to keep the Storm off the scoreboard the rest of the way as freshman Kelly Kocher gained her fifth pitching win of the season.

Junior Kelly Horbal, playing right field, made a game-saving defensive play in the seventh as she threw the potential tying run out at third base.

Junior Lisa Nazarenko also had two hits for Nazareth and drove in two runs. Kocher finished with 11 strikeouts.

In the first game, Keuka senior Kasie Davis pitched a three-hitter with two strikeouts to record the shutout win for the Storm and run her overall record to 8-0. Harris had two of Nazareth's three singles. Senior Lizzie Barlow had the other. Nazarenko took the loss on the pitcher's mound for Nazareth. She pitched six innings and had four strikeouts.
