KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Nazareth split a doubleheader with Smith College of Rhode Island Monday as the Golden Flyers completed their second day of softball in Florida. Nazareth, now 3-1 overall, dropped the first game 2-1 despite a nine-strikeout performance from freshman pitcher
Kelly Kocher. Nazareth came back to win the second game, 6-0.
In the first game, junior
Laura Finan drove home Nazareth's only run with a second-inning single. Junior
Jen Linnan had two hits, including a double. Kocher made her first start on the pitcher's mound and gave up only four hits over seven innings. She had three walks and nine strikeouts.
In the second game, freshman
Brittany Patenaude had three hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Sophomore
Katie Valerio and junior
Lisa Nazarenko each had two hits and senior
Christa Harris hit a solo home run.
Nazarenko pitched a three-hit shutout for the win and had five strikeouts.
Nazareth plays two more games Tuesday -- vs. Wisconsin-Stout at 3 p.m. and Springfield at 5 p.m.
