CLINTON, N.Y. -- Top-ranked Hamilton scored 12 of the first 13 goals of the game Tuesday and rolled to a 15-6 women's lacrosse victory over Nazareth in a non-conference game at the Continentals' Campus Road Field.
The game was the season opener for Hamilton, the 2008 NCAA champion. Nazareth dropped to 1-1 overall. Hamilton extended its winning streak to 20 games overall and 23 at home.
Sarah Bray and Liz Rave each scored four goals for Hamilton, including three each in the first half when the Continentals were building a commanding 9-1 advantage. Hamilton scored the first seven goals before the game was 20 minutes old. Nazareth's
Alyssa Mulheron broke the string with 7:55 left in the half as she converted a pass from
Jennifer Young.
Hamilton then scored five more goals, bridging the first and second half to go up 12-1 with less than 18 minutes left. Nazareth rallied with five goals in the second half, including three by junior
Nora Davis. Young also scored a goal and sophomore
Michelle Cook added one goal and one assist.
Senior
Maria Fusco started in goal and yielded six goals before junior
Ann Sessler took over and played the final 44 minutes. She had six saves.
Hamilton had a 26-18 edge in shots and a 23-15 advantage in ground balls. In addition to Bray and Rave, Hilary Saverin scored three times and Kaillie Briscoe had four assists.
Nazareth returns to action Friday for a non-conference game at St. Lawrence at 4 p.m.
