ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior guard Kelly Dunne scored 15 points to supplement a strong defensive effort Tuesday as host Nazareth won its second women's basketball game in three days with a 61-46 non-conference victory over Fredonia.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak against the Blue Devils and, combined with Sunday's 77-21 romp at Hilbert, enabled Nazareth to improve to 2-0. The game was the season opener for Fredonia.

Dunne made 3 of 7 shots from the field, including two three-pointers and went 7 for 8 from the free-throw line to lead the Golden Flyers' offense. Junior Mary Holland contributed 10 points and sophomore Brittany Wilson combined nine points with eight rebounds.

At the defensive end, Nazareth limited the Blue Devils to just 14 field goals in 56 attempts (25 percent) and just 2 three-pointers in 14 tries (14.3 percent). Nazareth also forced 22 turnovers and had six blocked shots.

Nazareth trailed early on but a 10-2 scoring run, fueled by three-pointers from Holland and Kylie Bartlett put Nazareth on top for good, 13-7, with 14 minutes left in the half. Nazareth extended the lead to seven points, 29-22, late in the half before Bartlett drove to the basket and scored and ultimately completed an old-fashioned three-point play to extend the lead to 10, 32-22, at halftime.

Nazareth stayed ahead in the second half and the lead reached 12, 39-27, on a three-pointer by Holland with 15:44 left. Fredonia stayed close as Katie Landy scored nine of her team-high 15 points in the second half. She also finished with five rebounds and went 7 for 7 from the free-throw line.

The Golden Flyers' margin of victory grew in the last two minutes as they scored the last seven points of the game. Sophomore Ashley Gallagher scored in the paint and sophomore Katie Kollar followed with two free throws. Then Dunne, Hillary Simon and Rachel Pirozzolo made one each

Nazareth went 19 for 58 from the field (32.8 percent) and 6 for 19 from three-point range. The Golden Flyers also converted 17 of 21 free throws (81 percent).

Nazareth is home again Saturday for a non-league game against Potsdam at 3 p.m.
