ROCHESTER, NY -- The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team held Nazareth scoreless in the last eight minutes of the game and went on an 18-point run to defeat the Golden Flyers 58-42 in Empire 8 action. With the loss Nazareth falls to 5-3, 1-1 in the E8 while Stevens improves to 8-1, 1-0.
Stevens led the entire first half until Nazareth junior
Rachel Pirozzolo (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira, NY) hit a three-pointer with 1:48 remaining to tie the score at 23. Melissa Collier helped lead the Ducks with four of their six points to end the half 29-23.
The Ducks held the lead into the second half until junior
Kelly Dunne (Northport/East Northport, NY) gave the Flyers' their first lead of the game 38-37 with 10:02 remaining. The two teams exchanged baskets for the next two minutes with Nazareth freshman
Brittany Wilson (Fairport) scoring a layup at 8:02 to put the Flyers ahead for the last time at 42-40.
Wilson's basket proved to be the last for the Golden Flyers as the Ducks' defense held them scoreless for the final eight minutes. Nazareth shot just 2-of-15 from behind the arc in the second half and had six turnovers in those final minutes.
Stevens' Melissa Collier led all scorers with 16 points. Teammate Jillian Barrett finished with 14 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Senior Dani Dudek added 11 points for the Ducks to give her 1,001 career points. Wilson led the Flyers with 11 points and 13 rebounds while senior

Nazareth hosts Hartwick Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. while Stevens will travel down the road to St. John Fisher for a 2 p.m. game.
