ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Rochester scored once in each half and held off a late surge by Nazareth Wednesday to defeat the Golden Flyers in a non-conference women's soccer match, 2-1, at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The Yellowjackets, ranked 19th nationally in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, improved to 10-3-2 overall, while the Golden Flyers slipped to 9-5-1.

Rochester scored just shy of the 10-minute mark following a corner kick that was headed out of the goal area. UR junior Lindsay Rood (Delmar, NY) chipped a pass ahead to senior Laura Bojko (Churchville-Chili), who converted the shot for a 1-0 advantage.

Nazareth's best chance of the first half came when sophomore Meghan Finn (Cortland, NY) caromed a shot off the cross bar at the 20-minute mark.

UR's second goal came at the 69-minute mark as junior Mae Butler (Cazenovia, NY) scored off a pass from junior Erin Carballo (Old Tappan, NJ). Nazareth avoided the shutout with about five minutes left when senior Kelly Finn (Cortland, NY) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season off an assist from freshman Kaylee Benz (Truxton, NY).

The Yellowjackets had advantages in shots (12-6) and corner kicks (5-2). Nazareth's Hillary Simon (Homer, NY) made seven saves; UR's Celeste Hornbach (Saratoga Springs, NY) had two.

The Golden Flyers return to action Saturday when they travel to Ithaca for a key Empire 8 Conference match with the Bombers. Both teams are unbeaten in conference play. Game time is 11 a.m.
