BOXSCORE |
CUMULATIVE STATSWEST CHILI, N.Y. -- Freshman Mark Daly (Glasgow, Scotland) used his head to enable Nazareth to claim a 1-0 non-conference men's soccer victory at Roberts Wesleyan Tuesday night.
Daly headed in a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Chris Lofgren (Vellinge, Sweden) about 3:19 into overtime to break the scoreless deadlock and end the game in Nazareth's favor. The victory snapped a five-game winless streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 3-4-2 overall.
"This is a good result against a good team," said Nazareth Coach
Danny Gilbertson. "We needed to stop the bleeding."
With scoring goals at the premium for the Golden Flyers, Daly delivered when it counted as he "timed his jump better than everyone else," Gilbertson said, "and rose above the rest" to head the game-winner into the goal for his first score of the season.
Roberts (4-4-1) had a 14-9 edge in shots and Nazareth goalie Trey Barresi (Lansing, NY) made five saves to gain his fourth shutout.
Nazareth is home Saturday to host Alfred in an Empire 8 Conference match at 1 p.m.
