Junior Lea Richard started the season in impressive fashion as she posted a first-place finish in the weight throw at the season-opening Nazareth Alumni meet. She won the event with a toss of 16.09 meters (52' 9 1/2"). She was also 10th in the shot put with a final distance of 10.68 meters (35' 1/2")
