CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's tennis teams each dropped tough non-conference matches to St. Lawrence Friday. In the women's match, Nazareth lost close contests at first and second singles as well as first doubles in a 9-0 defeat. The men's team lost by the same score as St. Lawrence won all six singles matches in straight sets.
In the women's match, St. Lawrence's Elike Vandenbeemt outlasted Nazareth's
Alison Tepas at first singles by winning a 10-8 teibreakerr in the second set. Scores were 6-2, 7-6. Then at #2 singles, Morgan McNeal won 6-4, 6-4 over Nazareth's
Alex Vizgaitis. In the first doubles match, Tepas and Vizgaitis lost to Vandenbeemt and Shannon Murphy, 9-7.
In the men's match, St. Lawrence took all nine points, including one at first singles where Michael Hayden defeated Nazareth's
Ryan McCormick 6-2, 6-2.

Erik Manske,
Scott Trobert and
Tyler Williams also dropped straight-set singles matches.
Nazareth's men's team opens its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday against Hartwick at 1 p.m. The match will be played indoors at Mendon Racquet Club.
