Golden Flyers fall to Baldwin-Wallace

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Nazareth's men's and women's tennis teams opened their respective spring seasons Sunday with a pair of matches. In the men's match, senior Ryan McCormick accounted for a the Golden Flyers' lone point in an 8-1 loss to Baldwin-Wallace of Ohio. In the women's match, the Golden Flyers were blanked by Wheaton College of Massachusetts, 9-0.

McCormick fought hard to take a point for the Golden Flyers at first singles. He won the first set 7-6, then dropped the second 3-6, before taking the tiebreaker 10-7.

Nazareth's other singles competitors los in straight sets -- seniors Jeremy Mancus and Bret Beaver at second and third singles respectively, junior Erik Manske at fourth singles, freshman Tyler Williams at fifth and sophomore Matt Jennings at sixth.

In the women's match, Nazareth dropped close matches at first and fourth singles. Junior Alison Tepas lost a third-set tiebreaker at #1 singles 6-0, 1-6, 10-2. At fourth singles, sophomore Krista Pagan lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

Both teams resume action Monday with matches against Rhodes College of Tennessee.
