Nazareth completes 3-0 volleyball weekend

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Nazareth knocked off two more Empire 8 Conference women's volleyball foes Saturday as the Golden Flyers completed a 3-0 weekend at the E8 Crossover Tournament at Alfred University.

After downing Houghton in a grueling five-set match Friday, Nazareth competed a three-set sweep of Alfred (25-8, 25-22, 27-25) and a four-set win over Elmira (24-26, 25-12, 28-26, 25-21) on Saturday. The Golden Flyers improved to 9-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Nazareth plays two more conference matches Saturday -- at home vs. St. John Fisher at 10 a.m. and at Utica at 5 p.m. The next E8 Crossover weekend is Oct. 20-21 at Utica.

Nazareth had little difficulty disposing of the Saxons in Saturday's opening match. The Golden Flyers had 12 kills without a hitting error in 18 attempts to win the first set 25-8. Sophomore Jillian Van Cott had a career-best nine kills and to go with four digs and sophomore Maria Allocco had eight kills. Senior Brittany Crocetti had 36 assists.

Then against Elmira, senior Aubrey Cooke and sophomores Olivia Harrigan and Kassandra Buseck each had 10 kills to lead a balanced attack. Allocco added nine kills and senior Amy Johnson combined eight kills with nine blocks. The Golden Flyers hit .292 overall on the strength of 43 assists from Crocetti.

Nazareth plays a non-conference match at Brockport Wednesday at 7 p.m.
