Pitt-Bradford match
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Nazareth split a pair of women's volleyball matches Friday during the first day of the Fredonia Tournament. The Golden Flyers had a seven-match winning streak snapped in a four-set loss to Buffalo State in Friday's first match. Scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23. Nazareth then rebounded to defeat Pitt-Bradford in three sets 25-13, 25-22, 25-18.
The Golden Flyers are 14-8 overall and play Case Western Saturday at 12 p.m.
After Nazareth claimed the first set against Buffalo State, the Bengasls answered by winning three consecutive sets to defeat the Golden Flyers in their first match. Sophomores
Maria Allocco and
Kassandra Buseck each tallied 11 kills to lead Nazareth.
In addition to the kills from Allocco and Buseck, Nazareth received 10 kills from senior
Amy Johnson and nine kills from sophomore
Chelsea Beecher. Senior
Aubrey Cooke and sophomore
Olivia Harrigan also chipped in six kills and three kills, respectively. The Golden Flyers' hitting percentage in the four sets were .250, .162, .143, and .255 as Nazareth converted at least 10 kills in each set. The Golden Flyers' attack recorded 17 kills in the fourth set.
Beecher led the Golden Flyers to a 12-7 advantage in service aces as she amassed six aces. Allocco added three service aces. Senior
Brittany Crocetti had a team-high 28 assists and Cooke added 17 assists.
On the defensive side, Buseck and Johnson each had two solo blocks, and Cooke recorded a team-high four total blocks with one solo block and three assisted blocks. Freshman
Jen Goodman accumulated a team-high 20 digs to thwart many of the Bengals' attack attempts. Cooke also had 16 digs and Beecher was credited with 13 digs.
Against Pitt-Bradford, Nazareth had little difficulty as Allocco delivered 11 kills and Beecher and Harrigan added five each. Cooke had 29 assists and senior
Brittany Crocetti totaled nine digs.
