ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth extended its women's volleyball winning streak to seven matches Tuesday as the Golden Flyers rallied for a four-set victory over RIT at the Kidera Gymnasium. Scores were 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.
Nazareth improved to 13-7 overall with the non-conference victory. RIT is 15-7. The victory avenged a Nazareth three-set loss to RIT back on Sept. 15.
Nazareth used a balanced offensive attack to overcome the Tigers. Senior
Amy Johnson led the Golden Flyers with nine kills with just one hitting error in 20 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. She also had three digs and five blocks. Senior
Aubrey Cooke also played well with seven kills, 13 assists, three service aces and nine digs.
Sophomore
Chelsea Beecher also had seven kills, while sophomores
Maria Allocco and
Jillian Van Cott each had six. Senior
Brittany Crocetti had 20 assists.
After faltering in the first set, Nazareth won sets two and three convincingly. Then set four was tied at 19-19 before Nazareth closed out the match with two kills from sophomore
Olivia Harrigan, one from Beecher and one from Johnson on match point.
RIT was paced by 11 kills apiece from Suzanne Jokajtys and Katie Cooper and 17 digs from Bethany Davis.
The Golden Flyers are back in action this weekend at the Fredonia Tournament. Nazareth plays Buffalo State and Pitt-Bradford Friday at 2 and 6 p.m. respectively, then Case Western Saturday at 12 p.m.
