Nazareth drops Wooster in women's tennis

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Nazareth's top three singles players each recorded victories Tuesday as the Golden Flyers won their first spring break match in women's tennis by defeating College of Wooster, 7-2. Nazareth's men's team also played and lost to Transylvania, Ky. 7-2.

Nazareth improved to 7-6 overall and will play against Thursday against Smith College.

Senior Jackeline Martinez rallied to win at first singles by taking a tiebreaker, 10-6, over Wooster's Elissa Lauber. Freshman Alexandra Vizgaitis and senior Elizabeth Way each won straight-set matches at second and third singles respectively.

Nazareth also got singles victories from senior Kelly Noble and junior Sherrita Wilkins. The Golden Flyers also scored two points in doubles as Vizagaitis and Noble won at second and Wilkins and Christine Cary won at third.

In the men's match, Nazareth earned points at fourth and sixth singles from freshmen Josh Mulligan and Bret Beaver. Mulligan won a close match by outlasting Transylvania's Dalton Main in a tiebreaker 10-8. Beaver won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Adam Landry lost a close match at second singles 6-4, 6-4 and freshman Jeremy Mancus lost in a tiebreaker at fifth singles 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Nazareth plays again Thursday against Greenville, Ill. at 6 p.m.
