ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Empire 8 Conference champion Nazareth will take to the road for its first-round game in the NCAA Division III Tournament this weekend. The Golden Flyers (18-9) will play Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champion Medaille (23-4) Friday at Plattsburgh at 6 p.m.

Plattsburgh (21-7), champion of the State University Athletic Conference, will play North Eastern Athletic Conference champion SUNY Institute of Technology (24-4) in Friday's other game at 8. The winners will play again Saturday at 7 p.m. for a berth in the Sweet 16.

Nazareth gained its seventh NCAA Tournament berth by virtue of Saturday's thrilling 65-64 come-from-behind victory over St. John Fisher in the championship game of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. Medaille, meanwhile, is making its second straight NCAA appearance after winning its conference tournament with weekend wins over Frostburg State and Pitt-Bradford. The Pitt-Bradford win, 89-77, avenged two earlier defeats.

Plattsburgh is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance after defeating Brockport and Oneonta over the weekend to take the SUNYAC title. SUNYIT won the NEAC title for the second year in a row by beating Penn State Abington, Cobleskill and Wells in successive days.

Nazareth has won all five previous meetings with Medaille, but the teams haven't played since 2003.
