Nazareth defeats Waynesburg, 62-58

Golden Flyers improve to 6-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Nazareth resumed its women's basketball schedule Tuesday in victorious fashion as the Golden Flyers rallied past host Waynesburg for a 62-58 victory in the opening game of the Waynesburg Invitational. Nazareth boosted its overall record to 6-1 and will face unbeaten and 25th-ranked Mount Union Wednesday at 1 p.m.

After falling behind 29-26 at halftime and trailing 35-31 early in the second half, the Golden Flyers used a 12-0 scoring run to take a 43-35 lead following a three-point basket by Kylie Bartlett with 11:20 left.

Waynesburg countered with a scoring run of its own and the hosts rallied to tie the score for the eighth and final time, 50-50, with less than five minutes to play. A three-pointer by Nazareth's Kelly Dunne with 4:40 left gave Nazareth the lead for good at 53-50 and touched off an 11-4 scoring run that included a basket and four free throws down the stretch by senior Rachel Pirozzolo.

Dunne paced Nazareth with 13 points, including four three-point baskets, and six assists. Pirozzolo finished with 12. Bartlett and sophomore Katie Kollar each added eight. Nazareth played for the second straight game without its leading scorer, sophomore Brittany Wilson, who is recovering from an ankle injury.

Waynesburg out-rebounded Nazareth 48-38 and was led by Callie White, who had game highs in points (17) and rebounds (10). Kollar was Nazareth's top rebounder with six.
