Box Score FREDONIA, NY (
nazathletics.com) - The Blue Devils broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute and held on for a 1-0 win over the Golden Flyers on Wednesday night in Fredonia. The loss is Nazareth's first of the season, dropping the Golden Flyers to 1-2, while Fredonia improves to 2-2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides settled into a defensive rhythm early, as neither offense was able to generate much of anything through the first 15 minutes of game action.
- In the 17th minute, Nazareth had the best chance of the first half as Joey Weaver sent a gorgeous cross into the middle where Mason Stanco got a head on it, but just missed it over the net to keep the game tied 0-0.
- The first half closed in a 0-0 tie, with Joshua Gleason making the lone save in his first start as a Golden Flyer.
- The second half mirrored the first, as chances were scarce and the opening shot didn't come until 15 minutes in, which was turned aside by a strong Golden Flyers block.
- Five minutes later, Fredonia found the opener as they sent a pretty cross into the box and nodded in the header to break the scoreless tie.
- Fredonia would do a nice job shutting down the Nazareth attack late in the game to preserve the 1-0 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Joshua Gleason recorded two saves in his first career start
- The shots on goal finished 3-0 in favor of Fredonia
- The loss marks Nazareth's first defeat to Fredonia since 2019
