Men's Soccer Takes Down Alfred 2-1 To Advance to E8 Semis; Golden Flyers to Host #7 Hartwick

ROCHESTER, NY – The third seed Nazareth Men's Soccer Team scored a pair of goals in each half and Bryan Tirado made six saves to lift the Golden Flyers 2-1 over #6 Alfred on Saturday in the Empire 8 Quarterfinals. With the win, Nazareth advances to the Empire 8 Semifinals and will host #7 Hartwick on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Hartwick upset #2 Utica 2-0 in its quarterfinal matchup.

Nazareth improves to 10-4-1 overall, while Alfred drops to 8-4-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nazareth dominated the opening half, finishing with 9 shots to 2 for the Saxons
  • Cash Rosado earned a penalty kick with 19 minutes left in the half, but Samuel Burton was unable to convert the opportunity
  • Nazareth eventually broke through in the 33rd minute. A free kick from 25-yards out near the corner from Braden Callahan was headed back toward Warmington who took a touch and perfectly curved the shot into the upper 90 to make it 1-0
  • Tirado made a difficult save six minutes into the second half, diving to push the attempt aside
  • Shortly after Samuel Burton saved what would-be-goal with a kick-save
  • Alfred kept the pressure churned up generating two big chances with 22 minutes remaining but Tirado stood tall. He tipped one opportunity over the bar and stopped one shortly after with his foot
  • Alfred's Dennis Hayes V received his second yellow card in the 71st minute forcing the Saxons to play with 10 men
  • In the 78th minute, first year Pascal Pascia had a great individual effort, beating his defender down the flank and cutting in for the goal to make it 2-1
  • The Saxons went down swinging, however, scoring a goal in the 84th minute to pull within 2-1.
GAME NOTES:
  • Nazareth advances to the semifinals for the first time since 2021, the same year it won its last Empire 8 Championship, 2-0 over Houghton
  • Warmington notched his sixth goal of the season, one behind Burton who leads the team
  • Pascia's goal was his first collegiate goal
