Women’s Volleyball Drops Close Contest to Rochester, 3-0

ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (1-4) dropped a close match to Rochester (6-3), 3-0, Tuesday night inside Kidera Gymnasium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth built a 6-4 lead in the opening set before Rochester rallied to take a 15-12 advantage. The Golden Flyers answered with a 3-0 run to tie the set at 15-15, then used three straight Lake Ziober kills to move ahead 21-20 and later took a 24-23 lead on an Alana Lucey kill. Rochester scored the final three points to win, 26-24.
  • The Golden Flyers opened the second set with a 5-1 lead and extended the advantage to 14-6 behind kills from Sloane Bell, Alana Lucey and Leah Fusilli, along with two Bell aces. Rochester gradually chipped away before rallying from a 23-17 deficit to tie the set at 24-24. Rochester then scored the final two points to win, 26-24.
  • Rochester took a 4-1 lead in the third set, but Nazareth pulled within 5-4 on kills by Lucey and Fusilli. Rochester then scored six straight points to build an 11-4 advantage and continued to pull away. The Golden Flyers cut the deficit to 11-6 and later 22-10, but Rochester closed out the set, 25-13, to complete the 3-0 sweep.
GAME NOTES
  • Leah Fusilli picked up her third double-double of the season with 11 digs and 10 kills. Fusilli has registered double-digit kills in four of the team's five matches so far this fall. 
  • Alana Lucey contributed eight kills at a .353 clip with three blocks for a team best 10.5 points, her second match hitting .300 or better this season. 
  • Sloane Bell logged her second collegiate double-digit digs performance with 10 against Rochester this evening. She added five kills and two service aces vs. the Yellowjackets. 
  • Gretchen Klossner recorded 11 digs in the loss, her third match with double figure digs so far this fall. 
UP NEXT
Nazareth hosts its first invitational of the season this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19. The Golden Flyers kick off weekend action against SUNY Morrisville before taking on Alfred State, Friday, Sept. 18. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, inside Kidera Gymnasium.
