Men’s Lacrosse Scores School-Record 35 Goals in Win Over Keuka

Keuka Park, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's lacrosse team kicked off a 3-game road stretch with a Wednesday afternoon game against the Keuka College Wolves. Nazareth entered the contest on a 5-game winning streak, scoring 25+ in their last 3 and outscoring each of those opponents by at least 20 goals. The dominant stretch continued for the Golden Flyers, who had their largest win yet by a score of 35-4. The goal total marked a new school record, which was previously shared by 5 different Nazareth men's lacrosse teams (including this year's) at 30. The Golden Flyers improved to an even .500 on the season at 6-6 (4-0 in-conference), while the Wolves fell to 5-6 (0-4 in-conference).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth kicked off the scoring early with a William Meagher goal just 36 seconds into the game. A Keuka man-up opportunity and a few Nazareth shots later, Joey Hathron doubled his team's lead. The Wolves managed a few clears of their own and got on the board with just over 8 minutes remaining, but the Golden Flyers answered as they pried open the flood gates with 4 consecutive goals in under 2 minutes. They went on to add 2 more before the end of the first frame to establish a commanding 8-1 lead.
  • It took the Golden Flyers 6 seconds fewer to get on the board in the second quarter, as Matthew Farrington extended their lead to 9-1 with his second of the game. They would follow that goal up with another flurry of scores, finding the back of the net 5 times in the ensuing 3 minutes. Kyle Rosenberger capped off that run with his 2nd of the game and team-leading 34th of the season. Keuka went on to carry the play for a stint, scoring 3 goals to Nazareth's 2 over a 4-minute stretch near the end of the half. The Golden Flyers rediscovered their groove with 5 unanswered in the last few minutes of the period, highlighted by 2 goals in 3 seconds including Carter Wegman's first of the season. They entered half-time with a 21-4 lead.
  • The second half proved to be all Golden Flyers. They held the Wolves to a scoreless third quarter, one in which they put up 7 goals coming from 7 different players. Each team spent time up a man in the period in what was an otherwise low-penalty contest, although both squads would finish the game scoreless on the man-advantage. Nazareth's final goal of the frame, coming from the stick of Jimmy Donnelly, gave them a 28-4 lead going into the fourth and final quarter.
  • The Golden Flyers refused to take their foot off the gas in quarter number 4, burying 3 more goals in the first 2 minutes, the last of which was Alex Garrow's first of the season. He would follow that effort up with another score just over a minute later, and Nazareth would go on to add 3 more before it was all said and done. The Purple-and-Gold wound up taking the match by a staggering 35-7, and their record-setting performance saw 15 players score a goal and 19 record at least a point.
