Men’s Tennis Falls Short in Oswego

OSWEGO, NY - The Nazareth Men's Tennis Team (0-6, 0-2) fell to SUNY Oswego (1-2, 1-0) Wednesday afternoon in their second Empire 8 matchup of the spring season. 
 
How It Happened: 
  • Nazareth would take the first doubles match out of three on the day. Max Funiciello and Pierre Ntonga would start the day for the Golden Flyers as they would fight to the finish in a tight matchup which they eventually would go on to win 7-6. Nazareth would have tight matchups in the No.2 and No.3, but would fall 4-6 in each. 
  • The singles matches were highlighted by the play of Senior Max Funiciello in the No.1 singles. Funiciello would win in straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. The Lakers would go on to control the momentum throughout the rest of the day as they would win three straight matches to increase their lead. 
  • Freshman Matthew Herb continued to roll as he would win a three set victory in the No. 6 match. Herb took the first set by a commanding score of 6-2, then dropped the second set 4-6, before dominating the third set by a wide margin of 10-4. 
Up Next:
  • Nazareth will look to bounce back Saturday April 4th back on home court vs Houghton University in an Empire 8 matchup. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Annette Shapiro tennis courts.
