GENESEO, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth Softball (16-10, 10-2) dropped both games of its Empire 8 doubleheader on the road against SUNY Geneseo (17-8, 8-2) Friday afternoon at Vic Raschi Softball Field, falling 9-1 in game one and 10-2 in game two.
GAME ONE: GENESEO 9, NAZARETH 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nazareth struck first in the opening inning as Alexis Brown reached, advanced on aggressive baserunning, and came around to score on a throwing error to give the Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead.
- Geneseo responded in the second inning with a three-run home run to take control at 3-1.
- Despite scattered baserunners, Nazareth was unable to generate sustained offense through the middle innings, leaving runners on base in key spots.
- The Knights extended their lead in the fifth with a five-run inning, stringing together multiple hits including a three-run home run to push the advantage to 8-1.
- Geneseo added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double, while Nazareth was unable to mount a late comeback as the game ended early due to the run rule.
GAME NOTES:
- Alexis Brown recorded multiple hits and scored Nazareth's lone run.
- Bryanna Moroughan added a hit and reached base in the loss.
- Nazareth was limited offensively after the first inning, while Geneseo capitalized on timely extra-base hits.
GAME TWO: GENESEO 10, NAZARETH 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nazareth opened strong in game two, scoring twice in the first inning as Alexis Brown and Bryanna Moroughan reached and came around to score on a combination of aggressive baserunning and a groundout from Madison Hicks to take a 2-0 lead.
- Geneseo answered immediately in the bottom half, stringing together four hits to plate three runs and take a 3-2 advantage.
- The Knights added another run in the third on an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-2.
- Nazareth threatened in the middle innings with baserunners, including a two-hit fifth inning, but was unable to convert those chances into runs.
- Geneseo broke the game open in the fourth and fifth innings, capitalizing on multiple errors to score six additional runs and extend the lead to 10-2.
- Nazareth was unable to respond offensively down the stretch as Geneseo secured the sweep.
GAME NOTES:
- Alexis Brown and Bryanna Moroughan each recorded hits at the top of the lineup.
- Morgan Russo added a base hit as part of Nazareth's offensive effort.
- Nazareth scored early in both games but was unable to maintain momentum as Geneseo answered quickly in each contest.
