leyROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Softball (12-8, 6-2) earned two dominant, five-inning wins over Keuka (4-17, 2-10), 12-2 and 23-6, Saturday afternoon at Flyer Field.
GAME ONE: NAZARETH 12, KEUKA 2 (5 INN.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth fell behind early after a two-out error in the first inning allowed two unearned runs to score, putting the Golden Flyers in a 2-0 hole before recording the third out.
- The Golden Flyers responded immediately in the bottom half, as Morgan Russo delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1 after Kaijah Alexander reached and advanced into scoring position.
- Nazareth took control in the third inning, tying the game on an RBI double from Kaijah Alexander before Morgan Russo followed with another RBI single to give the Golden Flyers their first lead at 3-2.
- After stranding traffic in the fourth's opening half, Nazareth broke the game open with a nine-run inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Alexis Brown and a bases-clearing triple from Bryanna Moroughan that extended the lead to 7-2.
- The rally continued with a sacrifice fly by Morgan Russo, an RBI double from Haleigh Suitor, and a two-run double by Ashley Bell, as Nazareth capitalized on multiple errors to push the advantage to 12-2.
GAME NOTES
- Avery Zembek produced her third straight victory in the circle, striking out four and allowing just three hits on zero earned runs while keeping Keuka scoreless over the final four frames to secure the run-rule victory.
- Bryanna Moroughan, Kaijah Alexander and Ashley Bell led the Golden Flyers at the plate with two hits apiece in three plate appearances.
- Morgan Russo and Moroughan posted a team-best three RBI each in the win, their seventh game this season with multiple runs batted in.
GAME TWO: NAZARETH 23, KEUKA 6 (5 INN.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth fell behind early after a two-run first inning, but quickly flipped the game in the bottom of the second as Haleigh Suitor tied it with a two-run home run before a string of hits, errors and aggressive baserunning produced an 11-run frame and an 11-2 lead.
- The Golden Flyers kept the rally going with contributions throughout the lineup in the second, including RBI hits from Alexis Brown, Bryanna Moroughan and Maddy Spakoski, while Morgan Russo capped the surge with a two-run homer as Nazareth sent 15 batters to the plate.
- Keuka answered with four runs in the third to cut the lead to 11-6, capitalizing on walks, a hit-by-pitch and a Nazareth error, but the Golden Flyers limited further damage and avoided a full shift in momentum.
- Nazareth responded immediately in the bottom half with another big inning, scoring eight runs behind extra-base hits from Suitor and Ashley Bell, plus a two-run single from Kaijah Alexander to stretch the lead to 19-6.
- The Golden Flyers continued to add on in the fourth, with Julia Maciag delivering an RBI double and Alexander driving in two more runs, pushing the advantage past 20 and securing control the rest of the way.
