Farrington Has a Monster Game as Men’s Lacrosse Dominates SUNY Poly

Utica, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's lacrosse team visited the SUNY Poly Wildcats on Wednesday, where they picked up a conference win in emphatic fashion and see Matthew Farrington tie a school record for points in a single game (13). The Golden Flyers have caught fire after opening the season 0-6, having won each of their 4 games since and outscoring their last two opponents 51-10. Nazareth improved to 4-6 with the win (2-0 in conference), while the Wildcats fell to 5-4 (0-2 in conference).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Flyers came out firing on all cylinders in the opening frame, getting on the board just over a minute in courtesy of a Matthew Farrington goal. The flood gates proceeded to open for Nazareth, who went on to score 9 more goals in the quarter to take a 10-0 lead. They dominated in every aspect of the game, out-shooting SUNY Poly 18-1 and winning 10/11 faceoffs. William O'Neill sparked the offense, scoring a natural hat-trick.
  • The second quarter was more of the same early on, as Nazareth picked up 3 more goals in less than a minute of play. The Wildcats managed to pot a goal of their own on their third shot of the game, but the Golden Flyers remained relentless as they answered with a 5-goal run to end the half. Kyle Rosenberger picked up a hat-trick of his own, and Nazareth entered half-time with an 18-1 lead.
  • O'Neill got the second half started with his 5th goal of the game 2 minutes in, but SUNY Poly picked up their second strike of the game just a minute later. William Meagher and Ryan Avery followed up by extending Nazareth's lead to 19 with 5 minutes remaining in the period. After the Wildcats found the back of the net once more before the end of the quarter, the Golden Flyers tacked on two more, sending the two squads into the final frame with a score of 23-3.
  • The purple and yellow took their foot off the gas to kick off the fourth quarter, going scoreless for the first 10 minutes–their longest stretch of the game without a goal–and allowing Poly to bury two goals in the meantime. Nazareth picked the pace back up to finish the match off and regain their 20-goal lead, as Hayden Lucas went on a scoring tear by adding three straight goals to his team's total in just 58 seconds. The first two of the trio were only separated by 5 seconds. The Golden Flyers closed things out to take the game 26-5, turning in their second straight win by 20 goals or more.
